Exiled! Competition Decks (Episode 337)

Exiled!

On Episode 337 of The Mana Pool, we took a week off from news, discussions, and all the usual stuff to bring you one of Brian’s brilliant ideas: Exiled!  He took the basic idea of the Food Network show Chopped! and applied it to Magic.  For a full explanation, go listen to the episode, because everything in this post counts as a spoiler!

All the decklists that came out of the first episode of Exiled! are contained here.  If you don’t want to know who won or who got Exiled in what round, then seriously stop reading now.

There was a slight problem with one of the decklists.  It disappeared between now and recording.  I listened to the episode and attempted to recreate the deck from the description given in the episode.

I LOVE Yavimaya Ants. Green Ball Lightning!
Also I kinda hate Bill now. Nothing personal.
The deck that bothered me was Bill’s second deck. Porphory Nodes is kind of a non-bo with the Elecutors, since their power isn’t that high, and I can see you putting the fourth counter in it only to have to sacrifice it, especially since he doesn’t have any creatures with a smaller power.

Yeah, part of the point of running Guard Duty was to keep the early game guys on the board rather than dealing with them directly in hopes of buying some time. Push comes to shove, I start animating manlands to sac to the Nodes in order to keep the Elecutors alive, but even then it’s still a non-bo. Hopefully Elesh Norn can help out with the size issue as well, though it’s possible she’ll just kill my opponent’s creatures outright and then I’m back to square one. Yay ten minute deck design!

To be fair Porphory Nodes is kind of a non-bo with Ephara. Brian comments on how everyone’s creature count was low for Ephara but im sure thats cause Nodes kills creatures so it incentivizes you to play less creatures.

and besides. I heard the base rules and hit pause. I saved the episode until my lunch and I played along with the cast. So when I had an option to pick a card nobody else would use I wrote down white mane lion. I suppose if I had been in the room I could have asked for a judge ruling on if the letter restriction would apply to my ‘selected without knowledge aforehand’ lion.

Any ways, I have been trying to get my friends to listen to the cast and assemble card choices in the same fashion so I can share them here but….

Also, you commented about posts here versus on forums. I think the fact I can enter a BS email address here and card shark requires a profile that I would then have to maintain might have something to do with other peoples decision as well…

Or just that it is immediately accessible and integrated into the PodCast post
