Magic is finally going home! The Dominaria prerelease is here, which means Chewie breaks out his trusty digital recorder! This year he did something a little different though. On Saturday he headed out to House of Cards in Winston-Salem, NC to hang out with Mike (not that one), Carter, and Andy to talk about Dominaria. There are discussions about broken cards they’ll never print, Brawl, Prison decks, and the set in general.
Then on Sunday Chewie joins Mike (now it’s that one) and Brian at Lucky’s in Greensboro, NC to actually play in the prerelease. You’ll get the usual round-by-round commentary as well as hearing how Brian did at the midnight on Friday. All in all, we all really enjoyed going back home to Dominaria. How was your prerelease experience?
A few weeks ago we recorded a live episode at Dirk’s house! We were playing the Explorers of Ixalan multiplayer experience using the preconstructed decks that come with it. Dinosaurs, Pirates, Merfolk, and Vampires slam headfirst into each other to determine who will win the golden city of Orazca!
Seriously though, this was a lot of fun. The rules are set up to keep things from getting out of control, the decks feel pretty balanced, and the actual game setup isn’t painful at all. It’s a solid experience and we highly recommend it!

It’s time! Chewie & Mike went to the Rivals of Ixalan Prerelease, so that means the handy digital recorder went too! We recorded our thoughts & experiences after deckbuilding and after each round, with a super special surprise in round 1! What did Chewie do that was incredibly impressive? What insane bomb did Mike not play? Listen to find out!
After the tourney we went to have celebratory Mexican food, but we didn’t record that.
Due to Chewie being unfit for recording this week, it’s time to get another live episode out of the can! A few weeks ago the dorks got together to play some Magic! We recorded the Commander 2017 show that went up two episodes ago, but we ALSO recorded some Archenemy: Nicol Bolas!
We played one game with Mike in the role of Bolas then we broke for dinner. It was delicious, in case you’re interested. After that we fired up the recording again and it was Brian’s turn to be the big bad. Those two games were drastically different. How were they different? Nope, you’ll have to listen to the show to find that out.

Preview season for Ixalan was a little weird due to the big leak. So even though the entire set has been revealed now, there’s just…not much left to talk about. And since we were going to be missing Mike anyway, we decided to get a live episode out of the can!
A few weeks ago the Dorks gathered at Brian’s house to play some Magic! We played a game with the then-somewhat-newly-released Commander 2017 decks. We opened them just before starting the recording and shuffled up. Dirk was on Cats, Brian played Wizards, Mike was on Dragons, and Chewie was on Vampires. And yes, the length of this episode is accurate. It was an epic long game, but oddly enough there weren’t any of those miserable chunks in the middle where nothing happens for anyone. Nice. Let us know what you think!
