It’s Halloween time! So we’re celebrating by checking out some of the favorite creature types of the horror genre for the rest of the month. We’ve already covered the two most obvious types, Zombies and Vampires. Because the other horror creature types in Magic are either boring or extremely limited, we decided to lump all the rest together in one episode, and it’s awesome!
I do have to apologize for the quality of my audio. The other dorks sound amazing because we started using Discord for the call. Windows decided that my headset should be my default microphone without sharing that bit of information with me, so the recording software recorded it instead of my actual mic. I really hope it doesn’t keep you from listening, because I was REALLY proud of this one before I found out what happened. I just can’t win.
It’s Halloween time! So we’re celebrating by checking out some of the favorite creature types of the horror genre for the rest of the month. We’re following up last week’s undead extravaganza with a more different undead extravaganza – Vampires! Because there were so few vampires in Magic’s early days, we’ll be focusing a little more on the individual cards. At least until Vampires underwent a massive change from “big bad iconic creatures” to “standard everyday race” in relatively recent years.
Wow, 7 years counts as “relatively recent”. Man we’re old.
Next week: The rest of the spooky subtypes!

It’s Halloween time! So we’re celebrating by checking out some of the favorite creature types of the horror genre for the rest of the month. We’re starting off with the obvious choice, the undead superstar of pop culture, the zombie! We’re going to take a stroll through Magic’s history, checking out the different types, flavors, genres, and styles of zombies as we go. We’re also looking at the zombie lords, tribal cards, and legends that we run across too.
Next week: Vampires!
After taking an unintentional week off, we’re back with another of our Kickstarter backers! This week Elliot Hunter (@erjhunter) joins us, and he’s awesome! We know this is a really long episode, just think of it as a bonus since you didn’t get a new episode last week.
First off there is a tiny bit of news involving the planeswalkers in Magic Origins! The ten planes that comprise their original planes and the destination of their first planejump! Then there’s the little matter of the draft pick heard ’round the world, Pascal Maynard’s pseudo-controversial GP Vegas Top 8 draft pick of a foil Tarmogoyf. To see how it’s doing now, click the link a little further down.
Elliot comes to us with an excellent idea that we’re totally going to steal from him. Of course, he basically stole it from us in the first place, so we’ll call it even. In Dirk’s Creature Corner, we like to point out how the various creatures (zombies/merfolk thus far) differ from plane to plane. But what if we did that for creatures that don’t really merit a Creature Corner? BRILLIANT! For the first edition of this segment Elliot wanted to cover one of the most iconic creatures that are found across most of the planes – GOBLINS! We’re bouncing from plane to plane and discussing how these little green (red?) men look, act, and whatever else in each one!
