The dorks are tackling the Commander 2016 set! Now that the whole thing is revealed we have plenty of stuff to go over – so much so that we didn’t even finish this time. We are going into great detail about all the new legendary creatures since they are the focus of the Commander format in general, as well as a handful of the new cards! If nothing better comes along then next week we’ll look at the rest of the new stuff as well as the insane number of reprints in these decks!

A few weeks ago the dorks all gathered at Brian’s house to play some Magic! And since we weren’t able to record this week for various reasons, you get to hear it now. Yay!
On this episode we began with a game of Commander Planechase. It went for just about an hour and was a fun and (relatively) fast game! After that, we decided to just say screw it and do another one. But this time Brian had the idea that we should each pick a deck built by someone else! So Brian & Chewie swapped decks, Mike & Dirk traded, and we went at it with an unfamiliar deck. This game was slightly more epic in length (about 2 hours) but I don’t remember it dragging or anything like that.
So strap in and enjoy a bunch of dorks playing Magic, picking on each other, giggling incessantly, and just having a good time. This is our first live episode with the new microphone, and I really think it turned out well. Let us know what you think!
This week’s Story Circles are interesting things. We began with the intention of creating two decks with complementary themes…sort of. We ended up making two decks that highlight how the different colors work with similar themes – in this case, that of token creation. The Omnath deck has plenty of Landfall and Elemental synergy alongside a handful of ways to sacrifice our Elementals to go with the commander’s bolting ability. This episode just went up and I’ve already heard multiple people claim that they’re going to build a version of this deck!
Endrek Sahr, on the other hand, creates a constant stream of smaller Thrull tokens. To manage his thrull amount limitation, we have plenty of sacrifice outlets along with plenty of ways to create new ones when we’ve depleted them. This deck, while possibly less overtly powerful than Omnath, has plenty of small synergies that are intriguing.
Also, discerning listeners will notice that the lifegain in both decks came from the same person. The Story Circles not only create decks, it gives a fascinating insight into how each person builds decks. Pretty cool huh?
It’s that time again! Commander 2015 is right around the corner, and previews are flowing like…something that flows a lot. So we’re hitting all the cards that have been revealed thus far! Nothing much else to say really, so enjoy!

It’s that time again! Due to scheduling and technological problems we weren’t able to record a normal episode this week, but thankfully we had a canned episode ready! A couple weekends ago the dorks gathered for some good old Magic-playing fun!
Dirk is playing Damia, Sage of Stone. Mike is playing Dakkon Blackblade. Brian is playing Maelstrom Wanderer. And Chewie is debuting his new Marath, Will of the Wild deck that you heard about last episode! This game goes on for the entirety of the episode, with all sorts of ridiculous goings-on going on.
And this wasn’t one of the long, grindy, miserable, please-just-let-it-end long games. It was a long game with plenty of absolutely insane plays where everyone got a chance to shine. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
