WotC Accidentally (Okay, Purposefully) the World

If you haven’t already noticed, Wizards of the Coast has officially put the entire contents of New Phyrexia out into the open for any and all interested parties to see.  Thanks a lot, guys.  Now we can’t go on autopilot for the structure of our preview episodes, and will have to actually put forth some effort to have them make sense and be interesting.  In the future, please try to show some consideration and think ahead about this kind of thing.  Jeez…

Which Preator do you like the most? I like Urabrask the Hidden, all you creatures have haste and only for 3RR. very aggresive and quick to get out :). I also like the Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger’s ability to tap opponents lands after they use them 🙂 very nice 🙂

    What do you guys think?

Jin Gitaxias definitely has the strongest effect on me. Every time I read him, I feel the need to go lay down for a while with a confused look on my face.

I was thinking of making a metalcraft deck with this guy (Urabrask the Hidden)and maybe Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer. Also i was thinking of making a Black/Red deck with destroy tapped creature abilities.

I didn’t know what to make of that either. I went to the site ready for spoiler week and then there the whole set was. Whatever. Still excited for it.

I’ve had a look through the set and wrote a (long) blog post on the cards with Phyrexian mana (http://lhsi-blog.blogspot.com/2011/04/thoughts-on-phyrexian-mana.html) in which I think about how some of the cards might be used in casual play (if at all), among a couple of other formats. The post is a bit long, I have a tendency to ramble on a bit sometimes :-/ (Feel free to have a skim read if you need any ideas now you’ve got the whole set to talk about, not that you’ll need it; you do a great job talking about new cards)

I didn’t mention much about the issues with the colour pie and Phyrexian mana, as that could be a hugely long post in itself (one which I think Mark Rosewater said in his column he will be writing soon), now that all the cards are officially spoiled, what do you think about the effects that can go in many off colour decks? They kind of did it with the colourless hybrid mana in Shadowmoor, do you think this is worse from a colour pie perspective, not as bad, or the same? Do you think they did pushed it too far with some effects (clone, counterspell, steal-a-creature, flying), or did they not cross a line that would seriously effect the colour pie? (For example, no ‘destroy enchantment’ available for black or red).

Jin-Gitaxias makes the little Control girl in me squee. 😀

But I’m still all Pro Elesh Norn. It just made a white Infect control deck viable.

I find it just creepy to see how the blue preator turned out, seeing as Dirk freaking called it!

If I am not mistaking he said something along the lines of: “what would the blue preator be? Maybe at the beginning of your upkeep you draw 2 cards, and at the beginning of your opponent’s upkeep they discard two cards.”

Well, switch upkeep to end step, and draw/discard 2, to draw 7 and discard EVERYTHING, and you’ve got it all right…
The funny thing is, Dirk already found his own idea scary, I’m eager to hear his reaction to the blue preator now ‘his frankenstein monster’ has come to life!
