The Final Sorcery

Hello one and all!  This is the final question in our series, and it comes with a bit of a surprise.  We need the answers to all these questions by this Friday!  This one is for sorceries!  It’s the same deal as before – in the comments on this post, give us a sorcery, any sorcery at all, and tell us why you’re picking it.  The only rules are the same as the rest: no repeats and no Un-cards.  Other than that, use whatever criteria you want.  You could pick out your favorite, the worst one ever, one that your friend plays that makes you want to stab in the face with a pointed stick…whatever.

Since we need all these answers by the end of Friday, I’m going to link to all the others here so you can go back and answer them if you haven’t yet.  Please do, we need lots and lots of feedback!

Deck List Poll

Creatures

Instants

Lands

Artifacts

Enchantments

Sorceries (you’re in that one, hey dummy)

Remember, we need all of these by the end of the night on Friday, Sept 23. Whatever Brian has planned, apparently he’s going to do stuff with it on Saturday.  He’s going out of town all week after that, so this is it.

There’s so many to choose from I’m just going to have to go with a spur of the moment choice and regret it later as everyone else chooses ones I like as well. =p

Genesis Wave. It’s pretty awesome on its own, and it leads to just completely awesome moments.

(It’s also ridiculously fun in a Riku mana ramp/copy stuff EDH deck – “I Genesis Wave for 22…and copy it. I put my library onto the battlefield.”

Demonic Tutor, because few can top its usefulness. Any card in your deck for 1(B) extra?! Yes please.

Land destruction is fun. If you’re the one who’s doing it.

Shivan Meteor. Because 13 is a funny number. Sure, Innistrad will be introducing a couple new 13 damage cards, but Shivan Meteor got there first.

    My choice here is Browbeat.

This card is amazing. Firstly it’s efficient, Either 2R for 5 to the Face or 2R for 3 cards. It’s hard to beat that as a red player.

Secondly, in multiplayer it can start some real political grudges, if the person on the highest life just lets them pass it over they can often get a rather large poke-in-the-face a couple of turns later.

Thirdly the artwork, admitedly I have a playset of each art, both is amazing. What is better than who is think is Khamahl (? Maybe ?) roughing up some blue mages for their lunch money (Or spells? Lunch spells? Maybe? ). The second art admittedly being slightly worse is what looks like an overgrown smurf chosing between offering himself to the firey maw of red mana, or death by circular saws, super meat boy fashion, that is the kind of evil genius I want to inspire as a planeswalker dammit!

And finally I’ve had some great times with this card, playing it is just fun, its a nice interactive card for multiplayer, that encourages shifty glances around the table, “Is he going to pay?” “Well I’m not paying I’m on 6!” “You have a Platinum Angel!” “I’ll pass” “I’ll Pass” “I’ll draw three then!” there is nothing quite as good as having an active Pyromancer’s ascension and Browbeating.

Difficult, there are so many I like.

At the moment I am impressed by Cataclysm.

Mainly because recently I have lost every game that this card was played against me.

Mine is probably Steelshaper’s Gift. It was a gift from a friend (funnily enough) and I’ve treasured it ever since. The ideal turn one play in my Kemba deck is Plains, tap, Steelshaper’s Gift, so I have great confidence in saying I love this card.

Rites of Spring. Being a music major (The Rite of Spring is a big famous piece of music written by Stravinsky, premiering in 1913), I couldn’t pass this card up. It’s currently found its home in my Karador, Ghost Chieftain EDH deck, and is always useful to me. I can pitch as many creatures as I want to go get some lands and then bring those creatures back anyway, and for only 2 mana. Absolutely bonkers in the right decks and it’s absolutely bonkers in mine. Great card and really takes me back to when I started playing the game.

    Cruel Ultimatum!!!

It’s my first BIG sorcery i pulled from a pack :) I remember the first time i played this and it COMPLETELY turned the game around for me :)

TapThisKillThat stole my first answer, so I’m going to go with an equally iconic sorcery and go with the old school Fireball. I love me an X spell. I will first pick Fireball a lot of the time in draft. It’s always either a game changer or game ender.

I just think its a nice card. Efficient, and a non-rare sweeper (kind of)

to round off my mono-U selection, i’m going with my all-time favorite card: Rite of Replication. It’s-a-clone, here-a-clone, there-a-clone everywhere-a-clone-clone. Okay i realize i chose copydudes for almost every category (vesuvan shapeshifter, copy enchantment, and now this). I should’ve picked Cackling Counterpart, Vesuva and Phyrexian Metamorph. hahaha MONO-U CLONES 4LYF

    Final Fortune.

I’m fond of last minute risk cards as well as goofy win conditions. The quote is possibly one of my most absolute favorites. “A reward is worthless if you aren’t around to enjoy it.”
