Episode 391 – The Nemesis of Good Cards

It’s time to do another Mythic Conscription! We’re continuing on with Masques Block, so the next set is Nemesis. And yes, this set was our nemesis. There just…isn’t much going on here. But we had a lot of fun discussing it as usual!

But before that we’re catching up on some of the news we’ve missed since our last non-live recording. The new Sealed Pool procedure for BFZ block, the Banned & Restricted List updates, news about Magic Duels, and the new eBooks of Magic fiction. Lots of stuff going on!

You guys have brought up Final Fantasy Record Keeper a couple times now. If you share your friend codes, people can add you and give you gold by summoning your wandering character.

I’m happy to tell you that the Magic Duels quests have shifted in focus. There are still some “Win X matches with a CD or DE archetype deck,” but most are about doing something X times or to a total of Y. Like “Attack with five or more creatures five times,” “Deal 30 non-combat damage to opponents or opponents’ creatures,” “Draw 20 cards,” or “Target an opponent with a spell or ability 15 times.” It’s suddenly much easier to build decks to accomplish these objectives than to try and eke out wins on Easy mode with a deck which flat-out sucks.

Also, the Deck Wizard will let you build mono-color decks and still counts them as the selected two-color archetype, which means it’s easier to play the low cost but color intensive cards the program always seems set on pushing. This can help when you do face an archetype quest, throw it back, then get another to replace it. For me, a white weenie deck is far more effective than trying to use both White and Black. No color problems and no ETB tapped guildgates. The resulting deck is too fast for nearly all of the program’s “Easy” decks.
