We begin this episode with a first-impressions review of the Arena of the Planeswalkers miniatures board game! Three of us took the time to figure out how to play (sort of) and successfully completed a game! We’re coming at it from the perspective of Magic players trying it out, since most of us have no experience with miniatures games.
After that Brian’s got another Magic Mad Lib, which is more hilarious than usual when all is said and done!
And after that it’s time for a long-forgotten segment of the show – Out of the Deck Box! Because Chewie actually built a new Commander deck for the first time in some number of years, he’s gonna tell you all about it this episode!

Do the rules make any reference to riggers assembling contraptions?
Haha, rigger please :p
Is there a place we can get a copy of these mad libs?
Some of the older ones are on the website, but the newer ones I don’t even have! Because Brian won’t send them to me :p
Just thought you would enjoy this: http://imgur.com/8cwaGVv
That is pretty awesome! 😀
Having played a fair bit of Heroscape back when it came out, it does sound like they used a lot of the basic rules, but it definitely sounds like they changed and added some things. Such as there was no summoning, you just had your squads and heroes who were individuals, so probably legendary creatures will be heroes I’d guess. I definitely want to check out the game when I can afford it!
You had me at “Pickle Shaman”
Mike, buddy… come on now with the Settlers of Catan! Answer me this, did you want to play? or were you forced to play? If forced… understandable. Otherwise, for shame on your friends for not teaching you properly, or you for not paying enough attention. Collect resources, trade for resources you don’t produce, spend resources for infrastructure (points), win (first to 10 points). That’s it in a nutshell. Sure, there are some bits in each of those steps… but seriously, my niece was able to play (and win occasionally) when she was 8.
Keep up the great work guys! The Mana Pool entertains me every week and I truly appreciate it!
In AotP, a hero is a creature army card with one figure. A squad is a creature army card with more than one figure. You can summon up to two creature army cards only if you choose a Planeswalker army card for your turn (before moving the Planeswalker figure). Spell cards are different. You can use those on any turn, no matter what army card you choose (before moving and/or after attacking), as long as your Planeswalker is still alive.
