On this episode the dorks have two main topics. First up, Mike and Brian went to SCG Modern States this weekend! Brian took Jeskai Ascendancy (or Ascension, apparently) and Mike took his Loam Assault (with a dash of Smallpox) to do battle. How’d they do? Well that’s why you listen to the episode, of course. I mean, duh.
After that it’s time for the next entry in our semi-annual-ish series where we take a look at properties in other media to turn into Magic! We’ve done video games, television shows, and movies (that we can remember) so now it’s time for books! The dorks take a look at some modern fantasy books, classic sci-fi, a bunch of favorites, and some seriously obscure stuff. Join us for a discussion of books we’ve known and loved with some Magic thrown in for good measure!

Full-Art Dr. Seuss Lands is THE greatest Magic idea I have EVER heard…
What are the odds of getting a decklist for the deck Mike was playing? It sounds really cool!
Check it
Woohoo thanks man! That looks super fun! I was also a really big fan of Tron Death Cloud
Life from the Loam is a good call. I have a Seismic Assault deck that basically relies on some fragile Groundskeepers and Hermit Druids. I may be the only person in history that has actually used Hermit Druid just to get the land.
Loved the episode and most of the choices you guys picked for your books. I am especially glad to have heard The Dark Tower mentioned as I am a huge fan though King does consider more than the “official” 8 books as Tower books. I was curious if any of you have heard of The Dresden Files series which is almost ready for MtG as is?
I’ve seen the show but never read the books. It does seem pretty ready-made for Magic though.
The show is ok but like many things that go from book to movie/tv show they destroyed most of the best things about the book series. In fact there are a bunch of fan made cards out already for the books. I stumbled onto them thanks to a couple of audio books at the library and been hooked ever since. Its also interesting that James Marsters of Buffy fame reads almost all of the audio books
Yeah, Bill told me he listened to the audio books. I’m not really much for audiobooks, and every time I try to find some at the local used bookstore, they seem to have an empty Butcher section. It’s disheartening :/
That’s horrible. I think you might really like the Dresden books though Butcher does hae a couple other series too.
Just wanted to mention it (as I’ve listened to this episode like 5 times now), I love Sphere and agree wholeheartedly (though I accidentally spoiled the end for a friend before I ever read it haha), but Chewie’s explanation of the difference between book and film is exactly the difference between The Dresden Files books and the tv show of the same name.
