It’s still Journey Into Nyx preview season! That’s pretty much it. You know the drill by now, there’s really nothing much else going on. Except for the Designer Cards from Magic 2015. Those are pretty cool. I love that they’re using nerd designers instead of nerd celebrities, you know?
But seriously, have you seen the art for Riptide Chimera? Holy crap that thing is terrifying. Nightmare fuel for sure.
There’s also a nice little list of YouTube videos that came up during recording, they’re listed below.

Hi Chewie!
Ugggghh… JUST KIDDING!
My whole family just sat down and listened to you guys talk about meeting us. Everyone was laughing. And GRIIISELBRAND!
Hey, guys
So, you seemed underwhelmed by bearer of the heavens, and I can understand why. It’s a strange effect. You noted that it probably wanted a deck built around it, and at least one host said they’d attempt to build that deck.
Let me give you a starting point. It’s called… Gift of Immortality.
Here’s how it works:
You get your Bearer, slap a Gift on him, and kill him somehow. When he hits the yard, three things happen: Gift puts him back on the field, and both he and gift set up triggers for your end step.
End step rolls around, and you have two triggers you can resolve in whatever order you please. Put Bearer on the stack first, then Gift. Gift’s trigger resolves, and gift re-enchants Bearer. Then Bearer resolves, destroying all permanants, including himself.
When he destroys himself, he sets up his own trigger again, this time to happen on your opponent’s turn. Gift returns him to play again and sets up its own trigger.
So, once you set this off, Bearer will die and resurrect during every player’s end step for the rest of the game, wiping the board each time. Best part? On your turns, he’s never summoning sick, because he came back during the previous turn, and has time to attack before he dies again.
Lengthy comment, I know, but I can’t wait to build this deck, and I love sharing this idea. Enjoy killing your friends!
I haven’t re-listened to the episode yet, but I’m surprised we sounded underwhelmed by him. I think he’s really cool! Maybe we were just tired.
Awesome deck, by the way.
Mike, it may be that you were normally whelmed, but I am abnormally overwhelmed by the splashy awesomeness of this combo.
Chewie, I love the episode cover art. Well done. I also love that in this episode you said “Screw you and your God.” Another useful entry for the Soundboard.
I think you guys just accidentally invented an awesome mechanic: If “Scrycle” doesn’t eventually make it onto a card (at least as the test name) I would be surprised. Scrycle could be something like “Scrycling X, discard this card, scry equal to this card’s converted mana cost, then draw a card). It’d have to be costed at a premium, but it seems like the next logical step for both mechanics.
