Episode 302 – What’s with the Elf Wizards?

Simic Old vs New

It’s all Simic, all the time in this episode!  Well that’s a slight exaggeration.  First we had to shoot the breeze, discussing the True-Name Nemesis, Grand Prix DC’s imminent encroachment by Chewie, and the state of MTGCast.  But THEN, then it was the whole Simic thing.  Yeah, we’ve got another Old vs. New for you.  It turns out that Simic is pretty deep, so we spent a long freakin’ time on this one.  Dirk even went off for a while.  A couple times.  No kidding.

But at this point I’m just taking up space so the post on the website doesn’t look funny.  So we hope you enjoy all the turquoise glory!  Get it?  Blue and green?  Turquoise? Anybody?

My mom thinks I’m funny :p

Voreal does double the counters on whatever it targets, you guys got this wrong when he got spoiled too, also Chewie send me my mtgcast prize I’m getting tired of trying to be nice about it.

To be honest, I can’t really remember any details of what I have or haven’t said about Vorel in the past. I’ll take your word for it that we screwed up. Sorry, and thanks for letting us know!

Unfortunately, I’ve still only seen Commander 2013 at the inflated card shop prices. If only Honolulu were overrun by more Walmarts and Targets, I’d have a deck by now. Damn you, sustainable consumerism!

Sidenote: didn’t realize until today that Gatherer could search by guild watermarks.

Still listening as I type. Quick note: Prime Speaker Zegana also evolves your evolve dudes when she comes into play. She may be (equal to) the biggest beastie on the field, but your Elusive Krasis just got bigger, too.

Also, the above commentor is correct, Vorel does actually double counters. The card reads, “For each counter on target artifact, creature, or land, put another of those counters on that permanent”. For each individual counter. That means if there’s a guy with 5 +1/+1 counters on him, Vorel will look at each of those five counters, say “hey, look, there is a counter here!”, and deposit another counter. Five original counters, five new counters.

This is why I love my Simic deck. Double the counters on Elusive Krasis a few times, or Cloudfin Raptor. Or take a Nemesis of Mortals, pop his monstrosity, then hit him with Vorel, you have a 15/15. Next turn, a 25/25, then a 45/45, then an 85/85… you get the picture.

Anyway, enjoying the show, glad to hear SImic getting the OvN treatment!

The Momir Vig Vanguard Avatar is the real greatest Simic guildleader.

I love Simic and I have an EDH deck which I named “Prime Speaker, Counter Doubler” starring most of the UG creatures and spells you mentioned in this episode. I was also impressed by the amount of concern for those affected by typhoon Yolanda here in the Philippines. Truely awesome of you guys. All in all, a great episode as always.
