Episode 300 – The Six Year Retrospective

Episode 300

Well, here it is.  We’ve been at it virtually nonstop for six years.  We started 300 (plus) episodes ago in November of 2007 and haven’t looked back.

And that’s the reason for this episode!  We’ve actually never looked back, and that’s ridiculous.  So this episode is all about the past.  It starts with a look back at the various firsts and notable things we’ve done, be it segments or popular episodes or whatever.  Then we’ve got to discuss all the various and sundry guests we’ve had on the show over the years (yes, all of them).  Almost a full third of our episodes have involved a guest host of some sort after all.  We finish it all up with the first actual look at our annual bizarre reality-twisting episodes.

We hope you guys enjoy this.  It’s pretty light on Magic content, but it’s loaded with plenty of fan service, nostalgia, and nonsense.  Thanks for everything!

Special thanks:
Tosus for the intro
K.I.L.R.O.Y. for the absconding
Sam for the adorability
Daniel Morgan (Beach) for the detective work assistance
The listeners for being awesome these last six years
The dorks for their time, their constant companionship, and all the fun for the last however many years

Thank you Dorks for 6 years and 300 episodes. It has been a great journey to listen to. Hopefully for episode 350 we can finally have Dirk and Lead Singer of Swift together on at the same time.

Thanks for the episodes DORKS. Been a listener for the past 50 episodes or so (no interest in going back through archiving). Enjoyed the entertainment and comedy you guys bring as well as the occasional insight to new cards and interactions and deck buildings. Also met Chewie at Vegas. *goes back into hiding*

Brian: … we’re one of the longer ones…
[show immediately goes on for three hours]

Perhaps the most impressive stat is that you guys are putting The Mana Pool out at a rate of 50 per year! Congrats, dorks, you’ve earned it.

Oh, and 3/0 for zero would be a Phyrexian Walker hit with a copy of About Face imprinted under a Panoptic Mirror.

As with every other one, brilliant episode, gentlemen. And I appreciate this episode a lot because there are some pre-150 episodes that I need to go back and listen to now. I’m probably going to try and hit the major ones that you guys have called out here. Thanks for all the awesome!

Well, I guess that’s what I get for making a not-funny comment before finishing the episode at which point I hear myself getting called out to make a not-not-funny comment. Well… I got nothing… um… uh… so a Suture Priest, a Minister of Impediments, and a Militant Monk walk into a Lonely Sandbar. They all say “Ow.” Yes, Ow is a card, look it up.

Guys, I want to congratulate you guys on an amazing accomplishment. 6 years/300 episodes. Wow. You guys are an institution. More so than others, you guys have a love of the game that transcends the tournaments and hanging out with your friends. You guys bring front and center the whacky *fun* that can be just dorking out over parts of the game. While everyone might not enjoy every episode, I believe that you guys offer something for everyone, excluding those jerks that just play to win (and really, who needs those guys). Surviving weddings and babies and dreary jobs to consistently record (although not necessarily consistently post) new shows each week for 6 years is nothing short of spectacular. Really. If the show was a child, it would have started 1st Grade this year, and if you were a Great Dane, we would be considering putting you to sleep, and then putting your ashes in a ceramic bowl on the shelf by the fireplace. Nothing over the top, something tasteful, that doesnt *look* like it has ground up bones of a dead dog in it.
As to how you guys have impacted me personally, you guys were what we modeled the ACS off, and when it died, I still had the bug, and I channeled it into becoming a Judge. So in a sense, you guys are indirectly responsible for that as well. Where you guys were talking about how your lifes would be different without the show, well, in a very tangible way, mine would have been different too.

Keep up the good work. Hugs and sloppy kisses.

Absolutely wonderful! I can’t believe it has been that long. I just realized I’ve been listening to your podcast since after your first year. I could only recall those awesome moments as Chewie mentioned them because there were too damn many in the back of my head!. Great speech by Brian about the goodness in people. Also, thank you for mentioning my comment on the last April fool’s episode. Such a good episode overall, a manly tear almost fell. And… Kill AJ!

You guys have been the ones that kept me interested in the game even when my gaming community dissolved. It’s always funny and entertaining to listen to you, and, while it was great to meet Chewie in DC, someday I want to shake the rest of y’alls hands as well! Kudos on 300!

Finally got around to listening to the full episode. What a great podcast! Best part was probably the last 20 minutes hearing Chewie talk about how much this show means to him. Such a great from the heart moment.
