Episode 285 – Mike Rosewater’s Vial of Leech

Magic 2014

Hey look, it’s the full Magic 2014 set!  That’s what we’ve got this episode.  It’s all M14 all the time!  And because it’s tradition, we brought our old buddy Bill Bloodworth to talk spoilers.  Or the full set.  Or whatever.  He’s @SqueeGoblnNabob on Twitter, and you should totally follow him.  But yeah, there’s nothing else to say here.  We did the Card Image Gallery the whole episode.  I should probably give you the link, I guess.  Here, hope you guys enjoy:

“This set has lots of interesting stuff that’s going to do…. interesting things.” – Chewie.

So what do you think the over-under was of number of times someone quoted “She turned me into a newt!” every time Festering Newt was cast at a pre-release last weekend?

That’s a good question, Myke. Given the intersection of MTG and MP fans, I’d put the number at 2/event for any set that has a witch in it. So with the newt… and at common… I’d say… 13.5?

How can we collect this data? Maybe we can get access to the audio from the microphones that Wizards hides in each store in order to gather frank and unfiltered customer feedback. Rumor has it that Alexis Janson listens to each second, hoping desperately to hear a player defend Emmara Tandris so that she can sleep for the first night in two months.

Hidden microphones? I think you’re being paranoid. I mean, the RFID chips WotC had implanted in every Magic card since 2007 already record audio, why would they bother with microphones in the stores?

No way- those things transmit audio data too!?!. Good thing I sleeve all of my cards in tin foil. This is one player who’s stolen finger prints MaRo *ISN’T* going to use to make phony gloves that he will wear when he hunts and kills Joss Whedon with his “bare” hands this weekend. “But I didn’t do it! I love Joss! You saw my youtube video! Anyway, weren’t there some strange fingerprints found on him…” he’ll say.
Anyway, yeah, two layers of heavy duty foil then I just write the names on the outside in marker. I even do this to my older cards that predate WotC’s Spy Tech, just in case. Like my mint beta moxes… yeah, that’s what’s in there. I have like twenty and I keep finding more.

When Bill mentioned eating the cards and gaining their powers, my first thought was how awesome eating a Tarmogoyf would be. Then I realized we really don’t have many of the types in our graveyards, so it would be a max of +2/+3 or so. Sad.
