Episode 273 – Great Big Guest Star Episode!

The Mana Pool All-Stars Battle Royale

We are eschewing the usual April Fool’s nonsense this year here on The Mana Pool.  Yes I know you guys look forward to it every year (except perhaps Shred Memory) but it really gets harder and harder to come up with new original ideas.  So this time, instead of doing something weird (er than usual) we decided to just have a hell of a good episode!

It’s guest stars galore on this one!  At various points throughout the episode we had Cluze from Card Advantage (@lacluyze), Bryan Prillaman (@BryanPrillaman) from JudgeCast (and Avant-Card Show of course) and we even managed to dig up our old buddy Eric of Many Names (@EricMTGCast)!  We even had Adam Styborski (@the_stybs) on, by virtue of a few off-the-cuff bumpers he recorded for us at GP Charlotte!  We discuss everything from Prillaman’s torried relationship with Claire (nonexistant) to what’s REALLY under Mike’s beard!  Due to the completely bizarre nature of this show, there’s not really a main topic exactly, just a bunch of dorks having fun talking about whatever there is to talk about!  We hope you guys enjoy!

Is it just me or is this episode not about what the description says it is about? I listened to the whole episode at work today and it was dorks playing an awesome new commander product.

all that judge talk between Bryan and Cluze are very annoying; it detracts from my experience as a casual player hearing about tournament stuff.

Also, Eric trying to rein in the conversation (albeit miserably) was a failure as well. Never have him on again.
In fact, remove all hosts and guesthosts with beards, apparently it’s what makes them horrible Magic players.

There is nothing more BORING than listening to people play a magic game you can’t see.

To anyone who wants to skip it, to bad. The show description don’t match. No nongame content.

I love the mtg cast and this show, but sometimes the mana pool is just the worst, like this show. PLEASE!!!! cut down on the eps that have games for most of the time.

I agree, the description isn’t right at all, and it’s even missing a lot of what went on. I mean, Lansdell was there, and you guys pretended his audio was glitching and told him to mute (which he didn’t), so I was like, well okay then. And then you aired that extended Mike Flores segment in which you broke into his house and asked him twenty more questions he had no answer to, and I was thinking, well that was weird. But then Wil Wheaton dropped to spoil a card from Dragon’s Maze and I was like, whaaaaa-? By the time Richard Garfield joined the call and you guys decided to cut him off because the episode was running long, I was totally confused. Liked the episode, but I have to say, a very strange show description.

I agree with greenpandaman. This isn’t the episode we are looking for. Although, those new commander cards are pretty cool. I hope this wasn’t an April Fools joke. Are you in on this, too, Jars?

To everyone talking about how the description and show don’t match up, check the date it was released.

Well, I don’t know what was being discussed in this episode because I don’t speak one lick of Esparanto, though I did enjoy the musical interludes. Is the real game to discern which Dork is a closet alpenhorn virtuoso?

I love people who are bitter because the bloody april fool’s day episode was something silly. SURPRISE PEOPLE DO SILLY STUFF ON APRIL FOOL’S DAY

In Japan, April 1st is considered a somber day of remembrance and whale killing in commemoration of the day a whale ate the emperor. To play a practical joke on the first is considered in very poor taste… literally, poor taste; whale’s palates are very sensitive and they only eat the righteous and magically-brought-to-life puppets.

If the day is all about whale killing, wouldn’t they want to offend the whales as much as possible so they get enraged and move closer so they can be punched?

My favorite part was the part where we all thought Brian’s mic was messing up his pitch and it turns out it was just MaRo talking.
