Episode 185 – Cubes, Power Outages, and M12

Drain PowerThis is a weird one.  Eric of Many Names joins us one final time before his family gets back into town, so we’re trying to make the most of it.  We mine his brain for some information about Cube Draft on behalf of one of our listeners.  More specifically, he talks about creating your own Cube.  For reference, you can find Eric’s own Cube list here.

And of course, we have a full load of M12 previews to go over, starting with the new Jace!  We recorded this well before they revealed any other new planeswalkers, so be patient and you’ll hear us rant about them eventually.

There was also a momentous decision by the US Supreme Court that we discussed for a short while.  Don’t worry, it’s definitely something Magic dorks are interested in.  Well, a good number of you anyway.

I’d like to dedicate this episode to Mario, Jumpman, and Ryu Hayabusa.  They died so we could have appropriate music for the various times the call got cut off due to power outage at Chewie’s house, Eric being forcibly muted, and Skype deciding it was sick of us being able to hear each other.  Remember them fondly, everyone!

Thanks Mikie. Chewie, Brian, Dirk and The many name-ed one. This’ll give me something to listen too while I try and scan exits to a wormhole 🙂

Just don’t go down the left one. That leads to Dirk’s personal meditaion sphere. Not Nicol Bolas, Dirk. It’s where he keeps the giant growth’s for his baby.

hi! funny episode guys! i always like it when your call suddenly dies! especially during the final thoughts 🙂

a note about top8magic podcast, yeah, i do think that some magic players won’t like the “non-nerd” stuff mike and bdm rants about in top8magic, but then again, each podcast has its own flavor, its own thing that makes it different from other podcasts…for you guys, its other nerdy stuff, video games, comedy zones, etc..for top8magic, it’s basketball, bella flores, random city noises, etc. it’s just i think a classic case of to each his own 🙂

also, whenever mike rants about basketball, it’s mostly about how players are valued in specific teams, etc…the way he talks about things (even basketball) more or less always goes back to his theories about magic, card valuing, mana usage, and such things…it’s always almost about magic when mike opens his mouth 🙂

try listening to hordes of notions (#11) i think..a rare thing that episode where mike guests in a non-spike podcast…also, he utters there a classic metaphor…his ultimate mantra about magic…the one who uses the most of the mana he has always wins…w/c is basically like real life, people who makes the most of the time and resources he has wins in life. so next time, try not to just tune his basketball rant out 🙂

    great casting guys!
